IMPORTANT NOTE FOR USERS OF SEMI-MONTHLY BUDGETS
The Spend 1.31 update release on Dec. 17, 2008 contains a bug that causes calculations related to
semi-monthly budgets to be incorrect. If you have downloaded this update and use semi-monthly budgets, your data is still totally in tact and you can continue to enter new expenses. Another update that fixes this bug has already been sent to Apple and will be available in a few days.If you have not already downloaded the 1.31 update and use semi-monthly budgets, we recommend not downloading it until the 1.32 update is released. Thank you for your patience! UPDATE 12/29: Spend 1.32 will be available in iTunes in 24 hours or sooner.

Why aren’t adding expenses having any affect on my budget?
Please make sure that your budget(s) start date is set to a date no later than the current date. Your budget will not show expenses or update itself until the start date arrives.

Why does the app crash immediately after opening the app?
It sounds like you are experiencing an iPhone/iPod Touch bug that has been affecting many users (and is unrelated to any particular app). I am not sure if there is one sure solution to it, but I would look here for some suggestions.

I am having trouble tapping the blue circle button to access the budget’s details…what do I do?
I was having the same problem at first, until I got the hang of where I needed to tap. I have found that I get the best result when I try to tap in the space between where the budget amount is listed and the blue button, rather than trying to tap directly on the blue button.

How do I add a new budget?
Click the + on the main screen and enter the budget’s information. Press the Save button and you’ve got a new budget.

How do I delete a budget?
There are two ways to delete a budget.

The quickest way to delete a single budget is to swipe a single finger horizontally across the budget’s row in the budget list on the main screen. A red Delete button will appear, which you can press to delete the budget.

To delete multiple budgets, press the Edit button on the main screen, which will put the list in edit mode. For each budget you want to delete, press the red delete circle to the left of the budget’s name, and then press the Delete button that appears. Press the Done button to leave edit mode once you are done deleting.

How do I edit a budget’s settings?
Select the budget from the main screen by tapping the blue circle button on the right of the budget’s row. Press the Settings button on the bottom right corner of the budget details screen to bring up the settings window for that budget.

How do I change the order that budgets are displayed on the main budget list?
Press the Edit button on the main screen to enter edit mode. For each budget you want to move, press and hold your finger on the reorder bars (the three horizontal lines) on that budget’s row and drag your finger up or down the list to reposition the budget. Press the Done button when you are finished.

How do I switch between displaying the available or spent balances on the main budget list?
Press the Available or Spent side of the button on the bottom of the main page

Why are some balances displayed in orange or red on the main budget list?
Balances that are over budget for the current cycle are displayed in red, and those that have less than half the budget remaining are displayed in orange.

How do I change what day of the month a monthly budget starts on?
The starting day and/or date can be changed in the budget settings window.

Why do my weekly budgets cycle on Sunday rather than Monday?
Spend used to consider Sunday to be the first day of the week. Now you can customize the start day so weekly budgets will begin on whatever day you choose.

Can I use other currencies besides the U.S. dollar?
The currency used by Spend should correspond to the region that your device is set to. So if your region is set to Japan, it will use the Yen, or GBP if your region is the UK, etc. It will not convert from one currency to the other when switching regions, however. So 20 Yen will become 20 GBP if you switch your region from the UK to Japan, for example. To see what region your device is set to, open the Settings app, then go to General -> International -> Region Format.

How do I add a new expense?
Tap the budget’s name in the main list that you want to add an expense to. Enter the details of the expense in the window that pops up and press Save.

How do I delete an expense?
Tap the blue circle button to the right of the budget that contains the expense you want to delete to bring up the expenses window. Tap on the expense you want to delete, and then on the Delete Item button on the expense’s details screen.

Note that expenses for a given budget are automatically deleted when the budget is deleted.

How do I edit an expense’s settings?
Select the expense that you want to edit from the expense list to display the expense details view. Press the Edit button to put the view into editing mode. Make the desired changes and press the Done button to exit editing mode and save your changes.
